411 and and Cingular woes

Hat tip: Pamela H.

I'vd been using this for a while, then forgot about it until recently. (After my last adventure with Cingular(ly) Worthless) (Okay, here's the story: Went to DC, phone is fine. I added a text message package, as google has some great textmessage information features. Come home, phone loses itsw mind and gets no signal when roaming. Tech support is about as supportive as a bean bag chair made from teflon, and decides the phone is Tango Uniform, and sends me a new phone. Groovy. Phone Arrives, swap out the sim cards and battery, everything is great, right? Uh, no. sorry. same problem. Go to Detroit. No longer in roaming area, phone works great. Figure it's fixed itself. Go back home, phone forgets itself again. Call tech support again, do the exact same trouble shooting, only this time they're sure it's the sim card, not the phone. Fedex new sim card. Install sim card. Need to drive all the way to Topeka to activate phone. (Must be done in a cingular area.) Take it to the cingular store, tell them to just make the damn thing work. They had to call tech support! FINALLY get the phone working! Yay!. Except it doesn't do wireless intraweb, or send/receive text messages. Hi, I'm square one, have we met? I've decided to wait until my next trip to Topeka to go back to the store and demand a replacement/upgrade without having to extend contract. I think after this move, we'll be switching service. Whew. Where was I?)

Sorry about the tangent. I've used this info number lots of times, it's ad supported, so you have to listen to a 10 second ad before you get the number, but it beats the heck out of the $1 plus you pay for it through your carrier.

When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial
1-800-FREE-411 or 1-800-373-3411 without incurring a charge at all
except for the minutes required to make the call. You can enter this number in
your address book as "Information" or anything else you want to call it, for that matter.
