From Homefrontsix:

We're prepared - water, food, gas, ammo. I'll keep you posted.

More at her place.
One less Boner in the world
Dear lord, I do hope that when I die, the headline doesn't read:

'Boner' found dead in Canada

Guess that's one more thing to Checkov the list of dead child actors.
Andrew Konig, left, played "Boner" on TV's growing pains.

Konig is was the son of Walter Konig, who played Pavel Chekov on The original series of Star Trek.
"Ve are loooking for ze nuclear wessels in Alameda."

All kidding aside, it's incredibly sad when anyone offs themselves after a long bout with depression, and moreso when the obvious signs of imminent suicide approach.  Doc Zero (a favorite) has a much more heartfelt and instructive commentary at Hotair.com

That's not change, that's more of the same!
We reject torture. We reject sweeping claims of “inherent” presidential power. We will revisit the Patriot Act and overturn unconstitutional executive decisions issued during the past eight years.

Doesn't quite match up with this

WASHINGTON - Key provisions of the nation's primary counterterrorism law would be extended for a year under a bill passed by the House Thursday evening after Democrats retreated from adding new privacy protections. The House voted 315 to 97 to extend the USA Patriot Act, sending the bill to President Barack Obama. There are 257 democrats and 178 republicans in the house.

From a frined of mine currently serving in Afghanistan:

But the story doesn't end here.  You see, soldier's angels is doing this everyday, many multiple times a day, all over the world, for our brave young men and women.  They never ask for anything, but are always there offering their support.  I can not count how many times I have heard from the Troops how much it means to them, and how thankful they are for what you do.

So tonight, from Kabul, I would like to send my personal thanks, and the thanks of the ISAF Joint Command Future Plans Team to Soldier's Angels.
Go read the whole thing.

From my position!!! is about to move west... and very south.

So far south that people don't say ya'll, but instead,

Aloha.

Okay. The blog isn't going anywhere. Just yours truly, and yours truly's family, pets and the assorted flotsam that we call our stuff. (I still have furniture my parents handed down to us from when we were married in 1997.)

Someone very special at the Armor assignments branch at Human Resources Command dug himself out of last week's record snowfall, managed to get to work without getting killed, and then was big enough to put me on orders to the 25th Infantry division's home at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. I am supposed to report in mid July.

So,  will be visiting my childhood home, my father's interment site at punchbowl, and spending my free time in places like this:

Volunteers Give Cancer Survivor Home Makeover
All too often you hear those stories of people who got a home makeover from that TV show and later can't afford to keep their new digs.  When I saw this headline on Twitter, I cringed.  Happily, I was all wrong.
Volunteers Give Cancer Survivor Home Makeover

A valley mother and military veteran diagnosed with breast cancer got some much-deserved help from 80 volunteers.
In this case, volunteers from Central Arizona Project worked on fixing up her current home, not building her a McMansion that will have electricity bills that make a mortgage payment pale in comparison.

Personally, I know the sense of relief you feel when you have to ask for help when it's the last thing you want to do and the person you asked says only, "When and where?"  These volunteers are doing a wonderful thing for Ms. Terranova.   I hope that some day she does get her wish to do the same for someone else.

I noticed that CAP lists "Employee-led committees for communications and volunteerism" as one of their employee benefits on the job listing section of their web site. That's pretty cool.

RIP Doug Fieger
It seems like all the posts about the passing of the Doug Fieger (lead singer of The Knack) are linking to My Sharona videos.

This one ran through my head today...

Read into that what you will... The 80's were a long time ago and I'll never tell.

PS I swear I did not know about the original lyrics until tonight.

Some days, I wish I never got out of bed.

Can ya'll think of a good caption?

The new we r tha wirld
I just saw the rap-ed up and hip-hop-ed new version of we are the world.

The song is typical of today's music industry, rather than showing talent and writing songs that are new, the artists (if you can call them that) instead just rearrange a current song and then over sample it, change a few lyrics, and call it a remix.  The only artist I saw in the entire damn video that I would gladly pay to see was Tony Bennet.  Lil' Jon couldn't even be bothered to take out his grills, and they even went so far as to use a clip of Michael Jackson singing in the original version, alongside his plasticized sister in the current version.  Didn't look right with Livia on the Sopranos, and it does not look right here, either.

Since we are the world did so much to bring peace to Africa, stop famine, end wars and extinguish poverty there, I can only imagine the tremendous effect it will have on Haiti.  The funniest bit was Jamie Fox asking everyone to give, no matter how big or how small.  He then returned to his $10.5 million, 17,000 square foot home and took a dip in his Olympic-sized swimming pool, bowled a game at his indoor alley, and visited the guests staying in his several guest homes.

Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge any of these (ahem) artists the fruits of their labor.  We pay absolutely retarded amounts to entertainers and athletes in this country, but they also are paid according to the contracts they make, and they earn what the market will bear.  Whether what they produce has any tangible value isn't what I am arguing about, my point is that in this case, not only did they not create anything, they also didn't improve on the original.

To be clear, 99% of these folks don't take money out of their pocket for this stuff--their foundations do.  Brangelina donated $1 million to Haiti relief, from their foundation.  Not money from their pockets, just money they raised from other friends and such for them to dole out on causes they deem worthy.

Multi-gozillionaires asking me to give as much as I can just pisses me off.
These are the pepole who cut the original.  (People I consider talented and artists in bold).  Finally, I must also add this caveat.  I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.  However, that doesn't mean I can't tell the difference between Bob Ross and Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni.  Bob could paint, but Michelangelo could truly create.

Remember Douchey McChinpubes?

He was paid a visit today by the FBI.  Then he was shackled, and charged with violating the Stolen Valor law.  Something tells me that the federal judge in Texas (or a Jury) isn't going to look kindly on his asshattery.

Dear Mr. Pharmacist
Dear Mr. Pharmacist,

I realize that there is a law here in AZ that I cannot by Pseudoephedrine without having to sign some paperwork. Because I practically never buy it anymore, I was not aware that your pharmacy has the process computerized. Ooh, shiny. I'm so impressed. /sarc There was absolutely no need to treat me with scorn and disdain because I was unaware. One might think that my ignorance of the nifty new way you do things would indicate that I don't buy mass quantities of Pseudoephedrine to shake and bake in the back seat of my car into meth. Perhaps you just assumed that I was feigning ignorance though, or worse yet had addled that corner of my mind sucking on a meth pipe. A more astute observer would have noticed I still have all my teeth, have no gaping wounds on my face, and actually have a few extra pounds that a meth habit would have eaten away months ago. But no, you had to be a complete douche and make me wish I had never walked into your store.

The only reason I will ever come back is because the woman at the front counter was a ray of sunshine after your little black rain cloud moment. She oozed ten times as much friendliness as you did animosity. I am now afraid to stand in the center of the store though as the difference between the two of you could create a personality black hole into which a person could disappear never to be heard from again.

So thank you very much for making me feel like I was an inch tall because I didn't know your fancy little process. Life is short. Maybe you should spend some time with that happy woman at the front counter. She might teach you a thing or two.

Sincerely,
Code Monkey

PS Nice plugs.
